U.S. Trade Court Blocks Trump’s 10% Global Tariffs, Citing Lack of Authority

A U.S. Court of International Trade panel has ruled against President Donald Trump’s 10% global import tariffs, saying the policy was not legally justified under the emergency trade powers used to impose it.

The Court decision concludes that the administration exceeded its authority when it applied broad tariffs on nearly all imports, arguing that the law cited does not support unilateral global tariff setting without congressional approval. The ruling follows earlier legal challenges that had already weakened the framework behind Trump’s recent trade actions.

Trump’s attempts to impose massive taxes on imported goods have disrupted the music gear industry over the last year, especially in the US. The initial round of Trump Tariffs, which were declared illegal in February of this year, increased costs for US importers and manufacturers, ultimately raising prices for musical instruments. And volatility around US tariffs made many companies delay investment in new products, in order to minimize unnecessary risk.

When Trump’s first set of tax hikes was declared illegal, the administration responded by imposing new tax hikes, using a different legal justification.

While the Court’s decision determines that the latest round of Trump Tariffs is illegal, the decision currently applies only to the plaintiffs in the case – a small group of businesses and the state of Washington. Other businesses and states are certain to follow, adding new uncertainty around the tariffs and their impact.

For manufacturers, distributors, and import-dependent industries—including musical instrument and electronic gear production—the ruling raises the possibility of shifting costs and renewed volatility in global pricing structures. The Trump administration is also expected to appeal, leaving the final status of the tariffs unresolved for now, with potential ripple effects across global manufacturing and consumer electronics markets.

      1. I work for an electronics manufacturer and all my shipping companies have sent paperwork over initiating tariff refunds.

  1. I have an office pool going that says President Orangutan will choke to death on a chunk of Big Mac before his term ends. The pot is already up to $24k. Gentlemen, start your memes!

    1. Hate much? I remember the days when most Americans respected the office of the presidency and the person who held that office.

      1. give it up bro. everyone knows he’s a crook, pedo, and phony but you.

meanwhile, looking forward to pre-ordering that Prologue II. woooooooo!!!! the extra memory and CPU will help a lot with better physical modeling implementations and wavetables. i wish they had more mutltiengine params though, the better access to modulators helps not having to build those in too. always starved for something in developerland.

        1. LOL. I’m not a massive fan of the current president, but my investments are doing fantastic since he’s been in office (couldn’t say the same under the previous administration). Of course, many on the Left deny that the presidency has anything to do with this. “Orange Man always bad.” The reality is that the presidency does impact the markets:

The presidency and related policies also impact gas and grocery prices, which aren’t stellar right now. If a Democrat gets back in the office as a result, that does not automatically mean that the cost of living will go down significantly for the Middle Class. But my investments and your investments/wealth would perhaps see a downturn.

If you don’t like the President of the United States, have a platform and policies that appeal to the majority of US citizens and stick with them (i.e., don’t run as a Centrist and then immediately turn far Left as soon as you get elected), and run a better candidate next time.

Meanwhile, I am also looking forward to a Prologue 2. Where have you confirmed that the synth prototype that Korg has under wraps at Superbooth is in fact a Prologue 2? I sure hope it is.

            1. LOL. Nice try. Nice skewing. Much of that upswing was at the tail end of Biden’s time in office. Not as hard to go 55% up from Dow, Nasdaq and S&P 500 terrible returns. And much of that upswing was fueled by optimism after the November 2024 election while Biden was still in office.

Anyone with a 401(k) can tell you that their nest egg took a significant hit while Biden was in office.

          1. cool, i’m working on some slackjawed hilbilly plugins for it. you’ll love it. especially you.

fwiw, given the timing of NTS product launches, it was obviously a prologue. you must have been smoking the stupid unwrapping attempts the AI fanboi’s do.

            enjoy!

            1. “cool, i’m working on some slackjawed hilbilly plugins for it. you’ll love it. especially you.”

              Again, more hate.

“It was obviously a prologue. you must have been smoking the stupid unwrapping attempts the AI fanboi’s do.”

Again, more hate. I asked a legitimate, sincere question. There is much speculation online. Yes, to most, including me, it seems to be a successor to the Prologue, but many have speculated otherwise. There has been no official announcement/reveal from Korg.

      2. Pretend much? I remember the days when most Presidents respected the office of the presidency and the people of the country.

          1. That’s exactly what Trump and the Republicans dish out every day – disrespect for veterans, women, immigrants, God, Jesus and everything holy.

That’s why most people hate him.

            1. So, that’s an excuse to call the President of the United States, “President Orangutan.”

I’m not so sure “most people hate him” to the extent that the Left leaning is trying to lead people to believe. In fact, if the November 2024 election were to be held again today, the outcome would likely be the same.

        1. “…people like you…”

You mean the majority of US citizens?

The popular vote, the Electoral College, and all seven swing states.
Most US citizens didn’t want the alternative.

          1. TimS – I appreciate that you don’t deny that you support a pedophile, rapist felon.

You’re back to lying about Trump being elected by “a majority of US citizens”, though. You know he didn’t even get a majority of voters, just a plurality!

  2. “Citing Lack of Authority” – literally describes his entire 2nd term, and 1/2 of the 1st. doesn’t matter though, corps will maintain the elevated prices to soak the people as long as possible, and there’s no DOJ to stop them.

    i wanna buy synths again!

  3. Where’s the troll that always defends Trump’s tax hikes by saying that he’s fighting the fentanly pandemic that the DEI libs created? Or some shite like that.

Did he finally get a life?

    1. Ha! Brutal! Won’t lie, I came straight tot the comments here to see what kind of Olympic grade mental gymnastics he’d post here. I miss that weirdo.

  4. I’m Canadian so this doesn’t affect me the same way but I definitely want my U.S. brothers and sisters to live and do well. I want U.S. instrument manufacturers to flourish. I want to be able to order things like the voice expansion for my Rev 2 and not have to worry about additional fees. I want companies like Moog, Groove Synthesis and all the small manufacturers to do well. If having fewer tariffs in place supports that, great.
