Novation today introduced Launch Control 3, the latest generation of their compact MIDI control surface.

The Novation Launch Control 3 offers key features of the Launch Control XL 3, but with a smaller footprint. It’s designed to integrate with all major DAWs, software synths, effects, and MIDI hardware.

You can connect it via USB or MIDI I/O and adjust parameters using 16 endless rotary encoders, eight assignable buttons, and an OLED display.

It comes with a full bundle of software to get you started, including Ableton Live Lite, Cubase LE and a selection of plugins from Klevgrand, Baby Audio and Output.

  1. Limiting the device to 7 custom modes is crazy. I suspect that each mode only requires a few hundred bytes of flash memory at most, so this is just a marketing limitation to differentiate from the XL.

    1. Sure, but how would you choose the modes with one row of buttons? I get your point of course, but it’s missing the point of intention of this device. It’s made to give you abunch of additional knobs. If you need 8 more of these like on the XL, you should go for the xl or Faderfox or whatever.

  2. Who is to say that this size won’t fit a fair number of players? Its $169. The XL3 is about $249, with sliders and more of everything. The smaller size makes sense for modest home setups or a need for portability. Its no different than considering a synth or other gear; you find the sweet spot between your budget and a tool’s capabilities.

    I’m considering this and not for a big dance rig, but to have a smoother time with my most frequent DAW moves. Its Novation, so you know you won’t get boned quality-wise. Their gear holds up.
