I Dream Of Wires is a documentary about the rise, fall and rebirth of the modular synthesizer. The film features over 100 inventors, musicians and enthusiasts discussing their relationship with the modular synthesizer. This includes interviews with Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails), Vince Clarke (Depeche Mode, Erasure), Gary Numan, cEvin Key (Skinny Puppy), Daniel Miller (Mute Records), Chris Carter (Throbbing Gristle, Chris & Cosey), as well as modular manufacturers like Doepfer, Make Noise, and Intellijel.

Subotnick explores the life of electronic music pioneer Morton Subotnick. At 90 years of age, he has become a cult figure for a whole new generation.

  1. Subotnick’s LP “Touch” has brought me to electronic music. Of course there were other influences in my life, but “Touch” is one of the very few examples that show what electronic music can be.

    Others may correct me, but I think this work was commissioned, and Subotnick worked one year on that album. Which is, admittedly, a good motivation for a young composer.

  2. I saw this film at the Seeyousound festival in Turin last year and I really enjoyed the film.
    ( My own film Crass .The Sound Of Free Speech was on in the same competition)
    The film is beautifully made and very gently paced. I would definetly watch this again. It is a pleasure to watch.
