Casio SX-C1 Portable Standalone Sampler Overview & Demo

2026 NAMM Show: This video, via Guitar Center, offers an overview and demo of the new Casio SX-C1 Sampler.

The interview features Casio’s Rich Formidoni, who talks about the fun retro design of the new Sampler, its capabilities and more.

Video Summary:

“Casio offers a sneak peek at the SX-C1 Sampler, a portable standalone sampler currently in the concept phase. Featuring 16 pads, a built-in mic and speaker, USB-C audio and power, and battery operation, the SX-C1 is designed for instant, hands-on creativity anywhere. It draws inspiration from Casio’s iconic SK-1, including classic sounds and a fast, fun sampling workflow. With onboard sequencing, sample editing, and massive internal storage, the SX-C1 blends nostalgia with modern functionality in a playful, approachable design.”

Casio hasn’t announced pricing or availability for the SC-C1 Sampler – they mainly seemed to be gauging interest in the device at the NAMM Show.

  1. Wait a minute. There’s no Midi in or out. There’s no sync for Volcas, Pocket Operators etc.
Do Casio expect people to use this exclusively?
Okay, it has USB for streaming audio. Maybe it can do Midi too.
But that sucks if you want to use it with other gear.
If this is how the final product turns out then is a definite pass from me.
Even if it was like £50, without Midi / sync why even bother?

      1. Which is why the penultimate sentence in my comment specifically says “If this is how the final product turns out…..”
        Exactly what the man says….

  2. Why doesn’t Casio engineer some dynamic filters? My 40 year old SK-4 sounds the same as this machine. My XW-G1 has the same tricks. Casio needs to learn from Yamaha, Korg, Akai etc and insert proper, independent filters with velocity envelopes to their products.

    1. Maybe they will? Remember the FZ-1? Casio were doing just that right at the beginning. Just what the man said, this is a very early prototype, so anything may change.

  3. USB MIDI, Sync and/or filters are indeed very necessary additions for a compelling device.
The comment that suggested Koala Samples as an alternative fails to understand the importance and preference for a dedicated standalone device.
