Superbooth 2026: The Modal Electronics Element One is an 8-voice virtual analog synthesizer that they say combines a streamlined interface with a deep synthesis engine, derived from the Cobalt architecture.
The Element One is a hardware virtual analog synthesizer featuring an 8-voice polyphonic engine and a performance-focused control layout. It uses a multi-oscillator architecture with up to eight high-resolution oscillators per voice and a range of synthesis algorithms derived from Modal’s digital synthesis approach.
The instrument is designed around direct access to key synthesis parameters through a simple control surface, supported by an assignable joystick, encoders, and a full-size keyboard with velocity and aftertouch.
Element One also integrates sequencing and arpeggiation tools, alongside extensive preset and memory management, and provides full MIDI and audio integration for studio and performance setups.
For deeper sound design, Modal provides the free MODALapp software editor for macOS, Windows, iOS and Android.

I wish this was based on the Carbon instead.
Every hardware manufacturer has at least one small instrument like this now. You could put four or five of them together and build your own Schmidt, power-wise. I love having a Novation voice with a MiniNova. Element One will do the same for Modal. Props for offering a free editor. Its a great time to be a newbie.
