Ultra-Minimal RND Synth Generates New Sounds & Sequences On Demand

Cyma Forma has introduced RND, a compact, one-button instrument that generates unique multi-layer musical ideas by randomizing parameters across eight synthesis engines and integrated sequences.

The RND is a hardware synthesizer developed by French boutique maker Cyma Forma in collaboration with artist Bambounou. It is built around the concept of spontaneous sound generation through controlled randomness.

Each time the single large button is pressed, all internal parameters — including synthesis engines, sequence behavior, modulation, tempo, and scale — are assigned new random values to produce a fully formed, unique musical idea that exists only until the button is pressed again.

The device combines up to four simultaneous instruments per patch, each driven by one of eight distinct synthesis engines and its own Euclidean sequence. Rather than traditional hands-on parameter adjustment, RND emphasizes unexpected, emergent sound outcomes.

The architecture includes multiple track-based audio outputs over USB-C, extensive MIDI connectivity with multiple modes, filtering options, analog sync, and stereo mixing.

Features:

  • Eight distinct synthesis engines — subtractive, FM, acid, noise, speech, Karplus-Strong, supersaw, and additive — feeding randomized timbres into each idea.
  • Four simultaneous instrument layers per idea, each with its own randomized Euclidean sequence.
  • Extensive single-button randomization that assigns values to all parameters, tempo, scale, and sequence.
  • Support for 20 musical scales selectable as part of the random idea generation.
  • Five filter types across the engine.
  • Multichannel USB-C audio output with four independent pre-reverb tracks, plus stereo mix output via 3.5 mm.
  • USB-C and mini-jack MIDI In/Out with nine MIDI modes including global transpose and per-track sequence control.
  • USB-C and mini-jack MIDI clock In/Out and analog sync In/Out for external timing.
  • Randomization space described as over 4,294,967,296 possible seeds/ideas.

Pricing & Availability:

The RND synth is available now to pre-order for $150 USD, with shipping expected in late June 2026.

  1. So it created the “killer sound” that you incorporated in your new track but there is no way of saving or recalling it… Am I missing something here?
    $150 bucks..? Really..?!

    1. Yeah, I think you are missing something.
That is the entire point of the whole thing!
And $150 really isn’t that much anymore.

  2. It’d make a good April Fools’ Joke but they’re 5 weeks too late. Maybe it functions as a comment onf the state of the synth market but I don’ really want to pay $150 to feel like part of the smug set.

  3. Cool sounds. Discarding them seems wasteful. It’d be nice if long-pressing the button sent the patch as MIDI sys-ex. I do enjoy my one-button Motfenzeef Shtick randosynth, but it costs a tenth the price. Alexander Zolotov’s Relic Waves iOS app is another good entry in this genre.
