Fors has introduced Pivot, a ‘no-nonsense’ FM synth – for Linux, Mac & Windows – with three operators, one morphing filter and zero algorithms.
“Years of research, development and deep love of FM synthesis has gone into picking just the right balance of flexibility and simplicity,” they say. “It does not aim to replicate or succeed anything, but to explore FM in a slightly different way.”
Instead of choosing between a range of pre-defined algorithms, Pivot lets you continuously route the top modulator’s output between the other pair. This makes sound design an explorable process, where you don’t have to make any decisions up front.
Other features include a resonant 4-pole morphing filter, 2 LFOs and 2 ADSR envelopes, with flexible mod matrix routing with up to 6 destinations at once.

Ableton Push 3 and Fors stuff is very fun. A little sad this can’t be used on Push 3 standalone 🙁
But, damn I am gonna buy it anyway looks fun 🙂
I’ve been using Fors Opal M4L FM drumsynth. I’d love to see it evolve into something like this.
THIS is the FM AU I’ve been waiting for. YES!
Their audio demos don’t do a very good job of showing what makes this unique.
ultimately YOU will be in charge of making it sound unique 😉
