Elektron today officially introduced Tonverk, a new polyphonic multisampler and audio processor.
The Elektron Tonverk has eight audio tracks that can be used in a variety of ways. There are a further eight tracks for buses, sends, and mix. Each of the 16 tracks has its own sequencer.
Tonverk offers polyphonic stereo sampling, multisampled instruments, tracks within tracks, flexible routing, a kaleidoscope of effects and modulation, and the extended 256-step Elektron sequencer.
Tonverk is the first device of in Elektron’s latest platform and the say “certainly not the last”.
The Elektron Tonverk features three sound creation machines, plus another for MIDI.
- Single Player is a Tonverk take on a polyphonic one-shot machine. Load, record, or drag and drop your stereo sample from your device, and play it back polyphonically. Find your start point, find your end, set your loop point, and smooth it out like butter with the crossfade parameter for seamless looping.
- Multi Player lets you load a multisampled instrument. The machine comes with several multisampled instruments, and with the Auto Sampler you can create your own.
- Subtracks offers you the chance to load a sample on every lower row key on Tonverk’s keyboard. This means one track is essentially eight Subtracks, each able to play their samples simultaneously. And every Subtrack has its own two filters, an amp envelope, and modulation. This means that you can do things like use a single track as a drum machine.

While the Elektron Tonverk has gone beyond the capabilities of the company’s previous samplers, it also is not designed to be an ‘Octatrack killer’, missing out on that machine’s fader and morphing capabilities.

It has a lot of bugs. Wait at least two updates.
It is quite the impressive machine, now, after several updates.
