I am sure this incarnation of TD brings joy to many, including some long time fans. Unfortunately, I am not one of them. I became a fan in 1977 and loved the Froese/Franke/Baumann lineup and loved Schmoellings time with them. After that it started to sound like lift music to me: bland, unexciting and lacking innovation. Its just my personal experience so please dont start shooting me down for heresy.

Edgar approved of the band, because he wanted to see the name and style persist. They’re not poseurs. They’re a continuation. People have entered and exited bands like TD and King Crimson without damaging the brand. More often, the sound gets refreshed in some way. Peter Baumann said that Edgar could get mad at business BS, but was always focused in the studio. That’s why there’s still a TD. They sound pretty good to me.

Call me old-fashioned, but it ain’t Tangerine Dream if 0% of the people that actually wrote the f**king music are still in the band. It’s a tribute band that bought/acquired the rights to the name…IMO

Shame that there is no DVD available, surely this concert was filmed and recorded potentially in HD… There are some videos of TD 50 years of Phaedra concerts from 2024/25 on YouTube however… 🙂
