The joy of it was that he could give his friends stage-ready designs, for them to create. It wasn’t economics or the urge to create ‘just anything’ for the market. The minimalism and endless adjustment until the saturation and usability was just right, those parameters were decisions of the heart and the ears. That is exactly what’s missing from so many designs in the world, sonic perfection instead of marketing, an experimental process for each goal that only got released when it was great and worked with discerning musicians.
