Finnish composer & synthesist Kebu (Sebastian Teir) let us know about a new documentary, Kebu – Space for Synth, that explores what it takes today to build a career in music.
Over the last 25 years, Kebu has built a career making original synth music that’s inspired by classic electronic music artists of the ’70s and ’80s, like Vangelis, Jean-Michel Jarre and Giorgio Moroder. He’s released multiple studio and live albums, built a social media presence with hundreds of thousands of followers, and has performed for thousands of fans in concerts across Europe.
The documentary offers a unique, behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to create a successful career as an live electronic musician. It is free to view, and while it’s in a dialect of Finland-Swedish, English subtitles are provided.

The new documentary Kebu – Space for Synth offers a unique glimpse into the everyday life and work of Finnish synthesizer musician Kebu (Sebastian Teir). Kebu is known for his melodic synth music and energetic live performances. He has built an international audience and received prestigious awards from abroad. However, behind the spotlight, the artist’s life is anything but a party: it means booking concerts, organizing logistics, managing technical details and constantly struggling with various practical challenges.
The documentary also follows Kebu’s European tour in 2024, offering viewers both unique live recordings and candid moments from behind the scenes. The film shows how much dedication and perseverance are needed to create the magic that the audience sees on stage.”

nice doc about kebu, you get to know about him as a person. his music is very rare though – most tracks are by the director. a bit strange.
Great stuff. It’s also a reminder of how much hard work and dedication is required to achieve success, even within a musical niche.
Way too much of “nothing” and way too little of his music…
Love his music and performances but this documentary is rubbish 🙁
Define successful. Hint: you will never be completely correct.
It looks like people are expecting it to be a ‘Kebu showcase’, instead of a look at the reality of being a musician in this day and age.
