In his latest video, Alex Theakston of Mylar Melodies takes an in-depth look SoundThread, a free, open-source audio-mangling tool for Linux, Mac & Windows.
SoundThread is a cross-platform user interface for The Composers Desktop Project (CDP) suite of sound manipulation tools. It allows for modular style routing of various CDP processes to quickly build up complex Threads that allow for extensive sound manipulation.
CDP has been notably used by Aphex Twin, as noted in the video.
The goal of SoundThread is to make CDP as user friendly as possible and it is particularly well suited to those new to experimental sound processing.

Probably worth a mention as he wrote CDP as a composition tool.
A visionary whose explorations make Aphex Twin sound conventional.
You obviously didn’t listen to enough Aphex then.
And why does it have to be a competition?
I’m a fan of both Wishart and Aphex here.
Wishart did some incredibly cheesy 80’s pop and some very pretentious projects as well as the really great sound experiments, so depends on which tracks you’re comparing.
Which Aphex Twin would you recommend?
If you like “Trevor Wishart’s – lmago”, you will probably be interested to hear “Aphex Twin’s – Gwarek2” but sure, Aphex Twin can sound way more conventional but also very emotional and engaging.
Like in his track from “Windowlicker” often called “Equation” or “Formula”.
This is what’s great about it.
I cannot even download the CDP because Windows does not let me since it keeps finding Maleware.

Darn, for MacOS users on Sequoia with an Mx chip, we’re out of luck. The package is built for Intel-based Macs or you need Rosetta to run it on Arm/Mx chip machines. 🙁
