Lupine Instruments has launched a Kickstarter project to fund production of the AP-1 MIDI-controlled ‘acoustic drum machine’.
In a nutshell, you connect AP-1 to your MIDI controller, using a 5 pin MIDI IN port, and it translates your MIDI signal into expressive playing of a percussion instruments.
The AP-1 mounts to standard 3/8 inch (10mm) percussion hardware via two built-in clamps and can hold drumsticks and mallets up to 17mm diameter. Use the inertia adjustment to dial in the speed and acceleration to match your mallet’s size and weight.
Here’s the official AP-1 overview:
Pricing and Availability:
The Lupine Instruments AP-1 is available for $219 to project backers.
Note: Crowdfunded projects can involve risk. See the project site for details.
I want 10 of these!
We are working on a 8 channel acoustic drum machine, (simple and) very complex sequencing possible by app on your phone (polyrhythmic to the max), it can therefore be used ‘stand alone’ and at the same time it is clockable with a gate signal (also very nice with contactmics and effects): https://interactivemusic.net/infinity.html . The app is now in debugging stage. We’re ‘only’ parttimers, we hope to finish it within a month of 3.
That is really cool. Looks similar to the Dada machines system. Love the sequencer app design.
Oh yeah! 24/7 percussion orchestra!
Cool and not overpriced!

This looks like a great solution if you want one trigger, but not if you want to scale up to something bigger.
I’ve still got GAS for the OG Polyend Perc.
If there is enough demand we will develop a “pro” system in the future that uses a hub with a module motor system that you can connect a bunch to. For now the AP-1 can be chained together using the MIDI OUT/THRU port. They are also much easier to set up and sound good on more instruments than the Polyend Perc because they use a mallet with a motor instead of a solenoid. We had about 23 of them set up at Maker Faire Bay Area last year playing over 40 different instruments in a 10x10ft booth.
Oh, the pro system is a mos deffo NEED!!!

Geoff says “Uh, yeah. No thanks. ?”.
Best cancel the Kickstarter and refund anyone who’s all ready backed it.
I mean if the mighty Geoff says no thanks then what’s the point?
Might as well just call it quits right now boys.
:,( Guess it’s time to hang the hat. Pack it up boys.
